Givigliana, a small village in Carnia

Givigliana is a small and characteristic village that is part of a larger municipality, Rigolato, which is itself special. A different Friulian to the rest of Carnia is spoken here: the words always end in “o”, while maintaining the article (la glesio - the church).
Only 7 people live here but despite this the small village is visited by many tourists for its characteristic coloured bell tower and the wonderful paths for snowshoeing. The decoration of the bell tower was commissioned by the municipality with the ultimate aim of promoting the village and making it more attractive to tourists. The village lies on a steep slope: people quip that the hens have “underwear” to prevent their eggs rolling down to Rigolato!

At the beginning of the village stands a wooden sign with the word “coccolandia” and a drawn crocodile. “Coccolandia” because of the fact that the inhabitants of Givigliana are famous for allegedly always complaining and being self-pitying, like crocodiles.
