Autumn is one of the best seasons to visit the Isola della Cona (literally ‘Cona Island’), in the Foce dell'Isonzo regional nature reserve near Staranzano, in the province of Gorizia. In the autumn months, you can see not only all the resident birdlife, but an infinity of birds and numerous geese and ducks that frequent the reserve mainly to rest during their migration, drawn by the lagoon environment and lack of disturbance.

The Isola della Cona offers an amazing habitat, a small uncontaminated area that allows you to discover a marsh environment, with all the flora and fauna that characterise it. The visit includes cycle and walking trails, which cross the various natural environments of the Reserve: from the paths the observation of the animals is sufficiently distant to allow them the least possible human presence.

The circuit that provides a number of scenic spots and observation points for bird watching is very enjoyable; it includes the new Visitor Centre and the Marinetta observation post. A centre for the reserve’s Camargue horses has also recently been introduced to the public, and the Reserve also has affordable accommodation and catering facilities.
