Transit Umbra and Robert Capa in Trieste

Trieste is also a city of exhibitions, especially in strange or special places.

The first exhibition I want to talk about is called “Transit Umbra” and can be visited until 23 June in the exhibition spaces of the Palazzo del Consiglio Regionale in Piazza Oberdan, Trieste.

The inauguration took place on 29 May in the presence of the Regional Councilors Paride Cargnelutti and Edera, the mayor of S. Giorgio, Pietro Del Frate, other councillors or political figures and Di Luca's daughter, Rachele who introduced the exhibition.

“Transit Umbra” is the new personal show of Gigi Di Luca, an artist from S. Giorgio di Nogaro and a figure of reference not only in his home town but also throughout Friuli.

He has taught for 40 years in the secondary schools of S. Giorgio, and is an artist who has expressed himself in many artistic fields: painting, sculpture, architecture but also theatrical and choreographic arrangements, gaining acclaim in each of these areas.

The title is inspired by the Latin slogan “Transit Umbra, Lux permanet" and expresses the very nature of the paintings, of contemporary art, with vivid and shining colours that dominate his works.

The second exhibition is also in Trieste, in the spaces of the “newborn” (inaugurated in October) Alinari Image Museum, located in the Castle of San Giusto.

The exhibition in question, which will last all summer and which will occasionally offer guided tours by Corrado Premuda, is a show of Robert Capa's photographs.

In this exhibition, Robert Capa, the war photographer considered the father of photojournalism describes Italy towards the end of the war, especially during the two years of 1943-1944.

The exhibition consists of framed and displayed photographs and a hundred or so shots in the multimedia archive of Alinari.

The Alinari Image Museum is a real space in Trieste, between Europe and the Mediterranean, also offering virtual content: a modern and multimedia venue in a setting full of history that gathers together all the testimonials of the shift from photograph to digital image.

Where to stay

Anna De Marco

Almost thirty years old and Trieste-born, I have a dream of working with children with difficulties. I am curious by nature and always ready to try out new experiences, I am passionate about theatre and musicals above all. I like to look around and participate in the city’s cultural initiatives.
