A stage entirely focused on the crucial areas involved in what was known as the “Caporetto retreat”, one of the key events of the First World War also known internationally and indelibly etched into the memory of the nations directly involved. The Twelfth and final Battle of the Isonzo, also known as the “Caporetto retreat”, saw, after exhausting years of war, the collapse of Italian troops before the advance of the Austro-German army which managed to redraw the front lines by quickly pushing them back as far as the Piave line. Now, the town of Kobarid as well as the surrounding mountains preserve the remains and testimonies imprinted both in the fascinating natural environments and in the monuments and museums present.

    Roadbook

The route starts from the center of Kobarid, home to the "Walk of Peace" Visitor Center and the local Kobarid Museum. Then it proceeds towards Idrsko where the private collection Posočje 1915‒1917 is located. From Idrsko, the route continues to Livek where the Walk of Peace turns towards Kolovrat and then onto the trail leading to Topolò/Topolovo and later to Livške Ravne, crossing the state border several times. After passing the Center for School and Extracurricular Activities Kavka, the path continues partly on asphalt, partly along a dirt road, until a trail leading to the Nagnoj summit is reached. From here, it continues along the panoramic ridge of Kolovrat until reaching and crossing the homonymous cross-border Open Air Museum. From there, it descends to the Solarie Refuge, the final destination of the stage.
