Loop from the hamlet of Campeglio to the picturesque and scenic villages of Costalunga and Valle di Soffumbergo
A fairly demanding route of development, but one that offers fantastic views of the Friulian plain thanks to the privileged position of these small villages in the municipality of Faedis, perched on the ridge that slopes down from Mount Joanaz in a southwesterly direction. The hike starts from Campeglio, where a convenient parking lot near the church allows us to leave the car. From there we set out in the direction of Raschiacco, from where we will enter the woods to start climbing! We will emerge from the thicket of trees at Costalunga, a small rural hamlet that enjoys spectacular views of the plains. We then reach Valle di Soffumbergo, another tiny hamlet, but famous for the Chestnut Festival held there every year on several weekends in October. We begin our descent to the valley floor from here, with one last important stop: the ruins of Soffumbergo Castle, an ancient medieval castle also famous for having been the summer residence of the Patriarch of Aquileia.
