A bucolic route that traverses a network of little-used roads and cart tracks turned into bicycle and pedestrian paths amid cultivated areas or left to stable grassland and rolling hills covered with forests and vineyards.

The Preval Plain is a valley basin enclosed by the rolling hills of the Gorizia-Slovenian Collio, offering 25km of flat trails that connect the towns of Capriva del Friuli, Cormons, San Floriano del Collio and Mossa, among vineyards, meadows and some protected ponds (Special Area of Conservation - wetlands in a hilly setting but privately owned and therefore no longer accessible).

For those who wish to engage in slow tourism, the plain is, in fact, crossed by the Pedemontana and Collio FVG 3 Cycle Route and the renowned "Wine Route." There are RV rest areas and areas equipped with benches, tables and bike racks, located in the different municipalities and three different routes indicated by special signage: the upstream route, a bit more challenging, the downstream route, in the heart of the plain and the route of the villages and towns.

It is ideal to walk in spring between April and May, for the meadow blossoms and the opportunity to engage in birdwatching and nature photography: cranes, of herons, egrets, geese, storks, buzzards and marsh hawks alternate with the sweetest glimpses of roe deer and hares, and last but not least the liveliness of squirrels, jays, hoopoes and colorful passerines.

    Safety information

The route is flat and indicated by appropriate signage and presents no difficulties. It runs on short sections of paved road with little traffic.

Avoid taking the route during the summer, because everything is exposed to the sun. Possibility of agritourism refreshments at wineries and farmhouses in the surrounding areas.

    Tips and suggestions

Very impressive in winter for the intense nighttime frosts, which turn the landscape white in the morning. Ideal for nature photography enthusiasts.
