Cornino Lake Reserve

Griffon Paradise

The small Cornino Lake Regional Nature Reserve covers a surface area of about 500 hectares between Forgaria nel Friuli and Trasaghis. The wide bed of the Tagliamento river and the rocky walls of the Carnic Prealps embrace a territory brimming with floristic and vegetational species, where for the last twenty years an international project for the conservation of the griffon-vulture has been developed.

An ideal destination for schoolchildren and birdwatchers, the Reserve offers guided excursions along panoramic trails: there are a host of observation points, where you can admire the many faunal species inhabiting the area, and, in particular, the griffons soaring across the morning sky. There are also areas set up for packed meals. The visitors' centre displays and illustrates the territory's natural characteristics and its peculiarities, with a large area dedicated to birds, in particular European vultures. Adjacent to the centre are some aviaries and a terrarium.

Easy equipped trails set out from here to the beautiful Lake Cornino and its surrounding river environment. Experienced hikers can follow one of the many trekking itineraries leading to the plateau of Monte Prât.
