Sasso Bucato

"Sasso Bucato" was the name given to the enormous erratic boulder used by the Austro-Hungarian soldiers as a machine-gun post. Inside it, thanks to a drill, the Asburgic army dug a 60-metre long tunnel with four loopholes and two small caves able to accommodate Schwarzlose machine guns M.07/12. For its position and armament, this military garrison was the key of the defensive line which from the Piccolo Nabois descended to the valley.

Today thanks to wooden stairs the entrance, which is about five metres high, can be reached. The tunnel can be visited with the help of a torch and you can observe the posts on the right which face west towards the border.

Once you have finished your visit inside the tunnel, you can climb to the top of this gigantic boulder thanks to a second staircase and a handrail at the back of it. Here you can find the observatory which gives a wonderful view of the peaks of Val Dogna. A panel placed by the curators of the Park helps to understand how the Austro-Hungarian soldiers were lined up.
