The Museum of the Great War of Gorizia is located in the basement of the medieval Dornberg and Tasso palaces in the Castle village (Borgo Castello). Besides the variety of materials displayed across nine rooms, this museum offers also the opportunity to experience the life in the trench by granting access to a reconstructed life-size trench, including the deafening noise of war.
The rooms contain objects, memorabilia and uniforms of Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers found in town or the surrounding areas as well as several models that give visitors a general picture of Gorizia and its hills, in particular Mt.Calvario and Mt. Sabotino. In addition, a room is completely dedicated to memorabilia and documents of GeneralArmando Diaz, which were donated by the family in the 1980's.
