Ulderica da Pozzo. Giorni strappati

Ulderica Da Pozzo's photographic project stems from a civic and human challenge launched in 2021, at the initiative of the Guarantor for Persons Deprived of Liberty of the City of Udine. The goal of the project was to radically transform the Via Spalato prison through the recovery and renovation of spaces abandoned for decades. The redevelopment of the physical environment was intended as a tool to give substance to the principles of dignity and the provisions of Article 27 of the Constitution, transforming the sentence into a path toward social reintegration.

Today, the milestones of this journey are documented in this exhibition: from the first phase of work, which saw the inauguration of the new semi-freedom building and the former women's section, to the completion of the second phase in 2026, which will house a theater and rooms for family meetings.

Ulderica Da Pozzo witnessed this complex transition by entering the cells of the former women's section for the first time in 2021. Her images capture the soul of those spaces charged with layered memories, capturing details such as tears in the wallpaper, engraved phrases, and paint residue. Five years later, in 2026, the photographer returned to the same places, finding them profoundly changed. The exhibition thus compares two periods: the recovery of traces of the past and the narration of the current transformation, where today the gaze encounters geographical maps and works on feelings, symbols of a new centrality of human relationships.
