‘Terrae Motus’ Exhibition – Mario Micossi

To pay tribute to Mario Micossi (1926–2005) on the centenary of his birth, which coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of the earthquake, works inspired by that tragic event – most of which have never been exhibited before – are on display for the first time at the Fondazione Friuli Gallery. His landscapes are distinguished by two seemingly irreconcilable characteristics: their immediate recognisability and the alteration of the proportions between the objects in the composition. After 6 May 1976, it was the landscape of Friuli that had taken on surreal forms, encouraging and accentuating the artist’s natural inclination: the mountains scarred by the Gjate marangule, which at times, as in Braulins and Portis, had spewed forth enormous boulders, towered over castles, churches, houses and factories crumbled by the Orcolat.  As the days and months passed, the artist’s heart was moved by scenes of survival and the continuity of life.

The exhibition will be open from 1 to 17 May during the following times:
Friday 4.30pm – 7.30pm and Saturday and Sunday 10.00am – 12.30pm / 4.30pm – 7.30pm
