Pasian di Prato

Pasian di Prato, together with the nearby towns of Colloredo di Prato and Nogaredo di Prato, share the same word "Prato" which means meadow.

Probably this means that in ancient times this area was characterized by a large grassland, 7 kilometres wide.

Its origins aren't proved, but probably it was founded as a village inhabited by shepherds.

In the Middle Ages the village was under the Counts of Gorizia and then passed to the Abbey of Rosazzo.

Pasian di Prato was a territory of the Republic of Venice until 1797; then became Austrian domination which lasted until 1866.
