A winter walk through Sappada

It is true, lately it's been a bit tardy. But when it comes, it's like a birthday gift, long-awaited by an impatient child.
Everyone was waiting for it. It's just that there is no fixed date for the festivities. The only sure thing is that in February, for the last few years, it has never let us down.
And so this winter, too, snow has finally made its appearance on our mountains.

Today, I am in Sappada, where the Piave begins to widen. Along the paths that surround this revered, glorious Italian river, there are beautiful itineraries completely safe to explore on foot, away from the danger of avalanches, and close to the village centre. In a very short time, after a short walk without any hurdles, you can reach an altitude of 1186 m above sea level at the picturesque Ziegelhutte sport fishing lake, half-frozen and surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the snow-capped Alps.

The village buildings, covered in snow and with their typical alpine architecture, beckon to you to have a cosy, delicious break. In one of the many joints you will be able to taste the typical products of Sappada: I tried excellent cured meats with cheese and some good grappa.
The snow covers everything in white. But it is a many-hued lack of colour that makes everybody happy. And even us adults can go back to being children for a time.
