Like many other Italian towns and cities, Gorizia too boasts a monument dedicated to Gabriele D'Annunzio, one of the key figures of the Great War in Italy.

It is a simple bust supported by a column in stone with an eagle. Under the column, a plaque pays tribute to this Italian poet and his great patriotic spirit during the war: "Gabriele d'Annunzio / poet soldier / gold medal for military valour 1915-18 / volunteer and amputee during three years of war, when he tirelessly fought supported by a higher faith, achieving outstanding results and participating in missions on land, air and sea, keeping his mind and purposes high and firm, in a harmony of thought and action, wholly dedicated to the sacred ideals of his country, showing pure commitment to his duty and prone to sacrifice".
