At the intersection between Via dei Torriani and Via Don Giovanni Bosco, past the bridge over the Isonzo River, you can see a monument dedicated to the Sixth Battle of the Isonzo. Built during the fascist regime, it consists of two blocks of stone, about two metres high, decorated with some images carved in bas-relief, namely an anchor, a shovel and an axe representing soldiers of the Navy, the Infantry and the Alpine Corps.
In the centre, you can read an entry taken from Benito Mussolini's diary: "Italy was born on the banks of the Tiber and reborn on the banks of the Isonzo". It is a clear example of fascist rhetoric, with references to ancient Rome, the cradle of Italian civilization, and the recent events of the Great War as well as claims of unredeemed territory.
