At the foothills of Mt. Calvario, this is the first stop along the route, a railway underpass named after Aurelio Baruzzi, the first Italian soldier to enter Gorizia and raise the tricolour flag in the morning of 08th August 1916.
Above this underpass, on 07th August 1916, this Petty Officer and his comrades managed to trap around three hundred Austro-Hungarian soldiers and confiscate several artillery pieces (including two cannons). The Supreme Commander immediately praised their extraordinary effort, a plaque was placed and the site dedicated to Baruzzi.
