As part of the defensive system ofFort of Mt. Ercole, two permanent batteries were installed on Mt. Cumieli and Sant'Agnese Pass. While the latter is totally gone, some interesting remains can be seen on Mt. Cumieli. Despite its modest height (571 metres ASL.), the mount summit offers great views of the area below. This is why the observation post built before the Great War was used in WW II too.
On Mt. Cumieli, you can also see some positions for medium-calibre guns included in the battery. To visit them, you must reach the Fort of Mt. Ercole and continue on the military road until the pass of Height 474, where a track on the left leads to the summit in no time. USEFUL INFORMATION
