"You have clocks, but we have time." In the West, time is measured, organized, bought and sold: it is something objective, separate from people, and often missed. In Africa, however, time is lived: it belongs to people, it is subjective, something to be immersed in and rarely missed. Where we are born inevitably shapes our relationship with time, and while it is not an immutable concept, it is difficult to free ourselves from it. Time can be experienced in many ways, even as a form of slavery, but it cannot be denied. This applies to any region of the world. It is the power that allows us to dance, regardless of our origin, gender, or condition, to experience time itself in an absolute present.
Ertza was founded in 2004 under the direction of dancer and choreographer Asier Zabaleta, with the aim of creating a new space for free creation through the interaction of various artistic disciplines, along with contemporary dance. Ertza's works raise questions about human and social contradictions. They invite the audience, in a playful and aesthetic way, to take an active stance in relation to what they are seeing and to reflect on current issues of daily life.
