Description
From October 31 to December 13, 2026, *Die Gelbe Wand*—a new exhibition space dedicated to contemporary photography within the *Mercati Culturali Pordenone* cultural center—will host *Tamaki Yoshida. Unfolding*, the first major European exhibition dedicated to the Japanese photographer.
Curated by Marco Minuz, the exhibition presents two significant bodies of work from the artist’s practice: *Negative Ecology* and *Himizu*. Through these projects, Yoshida explores the relationship between human beings and the natural world, questioning the visible and invisible consequences of human intervention on the environment.
This exhibition stands as a key event in the city’s cultural calendar and serves as a milestone on the path toward Pordenone’s tenure as the Italian Capital of Culture in 2027, helping to strengthen the city’s dialogue with the international art scene.
The project continues an ongoing exploration of the contemporary photographic landscape in Japan and German-speaking countries—a trajectory initiated by previous exhibitions featuring Stephanie Moshammer and Gak Yamada.
The title *Unfolding*—derived from the English verb "to unfold"—refers to the act of opening something that was once folded, or gradually bringing to light what was previously hidden. The term also denotes the progression of a process, the development of a situation, and the gradual revelation of the unknown.
It is a fitting term to describe the nature of Tamaki Yoshida’s work, in which photography becomes a space of transformation: the familiar turns enigmatic, and that which once seemed beyond comprehension takes shape and becomes visible. It represents a transition from one state to another—a process where not everything is fully revealed, leaving space for the imagination and sensibility of the viewer.
The exhibition can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
