Description
On Saturday, January 17th, at 11:00 a.m., in the Sala Sbisà of Magazzino 26 in Trieste's Old Port, the exhibition curated by Claudio Ernè and Massimiliano Muner, "Women's Faces. In the Trieste of the Belle Époque," opens. The exhibition brings together 170 images by an anonymous photographer, capable of capturing the Trieste of the pre-World War I era with freshness and spontaneity. His lens focuses on the cafés and streets of the city center, the elegant crowds at the racecourse, the nannies with their children, and the passengers on the vaporettos that animated the port. But above all, it is the women: hats, elaborate dresses, jewelry, and gazes compose a sort of urban parade that captures the vitality of Trieste's Belle Époque. He never posed his subjects: he waited for the moment, seized it, and consigned it to history.
A portion of the images have now been restored to color thanks to artificial intelligence, allowing us to imagine what clothes, furs, hats, and architecture might have looked like.
The exhibition is accompanied by a rich program of free-admission meetings, which will take place in the Sala Sbisà of Magazzino 26, the Sala Bazlen of Palazzo Gopcevich, and the Sala Luttazzi. For the complete program, click
