Who isn’t familiar with the Quartetto Cetra? They were the vocal group that introduced Italy to the "close harmony" vocal style so evocative of old-school America. The Cetra boasted a diverse repertoire, effortlessly shifting between cheerful, homegrown Italian tunes and American-style swing numbers. Their approach—developed in the 1940s and maintained until 1988—was truly ahead of its time and stylistically distinct from the Italian musical tradition. From radio to theater and, eventually, television, their performances were defined by a refined, elegant, and understated sense of humor. Audiences can relive this atmosphere thanks to the sophisticated vocals and charming stage presence of the Anakrousis Vocal Group, combined with superb arrangements performed with sensitive liveliness by the Trieste Early Jazz Orchestra (TEJO) under the direction of the arranger himself, Tom Hmeljak. Songs by the Cetra will be interspersed with pieces from TEJO’s own historic repertoire.
