Description
"'The Wall' is a manifesto, an act of protest against a world, against a society that does not respect humans as sentient and free beings," writes Manuel Renga, the show's director. "'The Wall' is also one of the most important rock concept albums ever created. For this reason, we have constructed a complex, rich, multifaceted project on stage that can convey the evocative power of Pink Floyd's masterpiece through a contemporary and original interpretation and language. A group of dancers, an actor, video projections, tools at the service of this album's profound and clear message: let's try to break down that wall of solitude and open ourselves to the world." The new project in which the MM Contemporary Dance Company is participating, choreographed by director Michele Merola, is multidisciplinary, engaging, and timely. One of Italy's most acclaimed dance companies, which has also distinguished itself at the Rossetti in past seasons for its preparation and eclecticism, is also multidisciplinary, engaging, and timely.
Surrounding protagonist Jacopo Trebbi—who will voice Pink, Roger Waters' rock star alter ego—the MM Contemporary Dance Company tackles the British group's extraordinary progressive opus, released in 1979 and later made into a celebrated film by Alan Parker. The theatrical version will immerse audiences in the "mad confusion" of Pink's mind and express his cry for freedom, through Emanuele Aldrovandi's dramaturgy and a captivating blend of languages suspended between theater, dance, and music.
