Howtan Re - Holy Pop

Description

Holy Pop at Palazzo De Nordis brings Howtan Re’s sculptures into a striking dialogue with the historic De Martiis collection. The exhibition not only showcases the works donated by the collector but also revitalizes the museum, transforming it into a space of renewed light and cultural reflection. Howtan Re merges sacred iconography with pop aesthetics, creating works that explore faith, fragility, and human presence in the age of mass visual culture. In Cividale, his sculptures interact with the classical models of the De Martiis collection, reinterpreting them for a contemporary audience. The pathos of his figures transcends mere aesthetics: each piece invites viewers to experience the tension between the visible and the invisible, between emotion and spirituality.

GALLERIA FAMIGLIA DE MARTIIS
Donated to the Municipality of Cividale, the De Martiis collection is one of the most significant holdings of 20th-century Italian and international art in Friuli Venezia Giulia. It brings together works by leading modern and contemporary artists, spanning diverse languages — from figurative to abstract, from European avant-gardes to informal art. At the heart of the collection are artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Emilio Vedova, Afro Basaldella, Mario Sironi, Victor Vasarely, and Zoran Mušič, whose works embody the major movements and visual transformations of 20th-century European art.
