Emotion, adventure, and awe: on Sunday, November 9, 2025, the Grotta Gigante Trail returns – one of the most breathtaking races in the world, finishing in the heart of a cave 110 meters deep.
A must-attend event for trail running enthusiasts, immersed in the stunning landscapes of the Trieste Karst. The 17 km course (with 700 m of elevation gain) crosses the Monte Lanaro Nature Reserve and ends with an incredible 1,100-meter descent into the Grotta Gigante, finishing after a climb of 500 steps – a unique, intense experience to be lived “alone in the depth of the Earth".
Registration opens on July 1, 2025 at: https://www.caicim.it/il-trail-della-grotta-gigante/ Only 300 race bibs are available, and the event is expected to sell out within weeks once again. Organized by CAICIM Trieste, the mountain running group of the Società Alpina delle Giulie, the event blends sport, nature, and inclusion in a festive atmosphere that has become iconic in the trail running world. Many are already eager to sign up – first come, first run!
