Description
Friday 30 May at 4 p.m. at the Petrarchesco Piccolomineo Museum (via Madonna del mare 13, 3rd floor), inauguration of the exhibition ‘’In viaggio con Casanova. L'approdo a Trieste’ curated by Alessandra Sirugo.
The exhibition, with free admission, is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Wednesdays also from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; closed on Sundays and holidays and will continue until 10 January 2026.
In 2025, the year of the 300th anniversary of Casanova's birth (1725-1798), the Municipality of Trieste, Department for Education and Family Policies, School, Education and Libraries Service recalls the period when the Venetian writer lived in Trieste, from 15 November 1772 to 14 September 1774, with the exhibition ‘Travelling with Casanova. Landing in Trieste'.
At the Petrarchesco Piccolomineo Museum, one can admire first editions that are the heritage of the Biblioteca Civica, prints and publications illustrating the theatrical and literary culture of his time. In fact, the adventurer, after escaping from the ‘Piombi’ and wandering around Europe in search of employment worthy of him, left the mark of his talent as a brilliant storyteller in the book collections of the ‘Attilio Hortis’ Civic Library. On these shelves are eleven copies of the enterprising man of letters' works and some articles on international politics in the “Osservatore triestino”. From the selection made by Alessandra Sirugo, author of the census of the ‘Hortis’ specimens, a portrait emerges of an author with a clear and compelling writing style, an assiduous spectator of Trieste's theatres and a catalyst of attention in the drawing rooms of good society.
The event, born from the collaboration with the Ca'Foscari University project, centred on the research and dissemination activities of the Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies (DSLCC) under the direction of Antonio Trampus, is coordinated with the exhibition in via Torino ‘In viaggio con Casanova. Ports and landings from the Adriatic to the Levant: Trieste, Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia', which also opens on 30 May at 5.30 pm.
Guided tours of the exhibition on Saturday at 11 am and by appointment (full price: € 4.50; reduced € 2.50).
