Exhibition Elizabethan Stories – The Visionary Comics of Miela Reina

The LETS – Letteratura Trieste Museum is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the Elizabethan Stories by Miela Reina (1935–1972). On display are the first illustrations from the work, created between 1970 and 1971, along with two videos and other works that testify to the artist's narrative vocation.
The Elizabethan Stories are a unique work in the Italian panorama of the 1970s: 32 black and white illustrations that are a cross between an artist's book and a graphic novel ante litteram. Miela recounts the romantic trials and tribulations of Elisabetta and Piero with a joyful touch and a free style, populating the narrative with fantastical inventions.
The exhibition allows us to understand why these works find a home in the Museum of Literature: Miela's narrative vocation, in fact, runs through all her work, from her early poems to the Pinocchio fairy tale for the motor ship Raffaello (1964), to the “comics” of the 1970s such as the Elisabettiane Stories, La Piantagione and Blow up! Her talent in the use of the written word makes her a true writer as well as a painter.
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
