The opening concert of the Music Season promises to be an event of international significance, entrusted to one of the world's most distinguished orchestras, the Dresdner Philharmonie. The evening is further enhanced by the presence of the legendary pianist Emanuel Ax, the first outstanding jewel of the season's artistic programme, whose worldwide stature has recently been confirmed by his being named "Concert Artist of the Year – 2026" by the Musical Award, the highest distinction bestowed by North American music critics.
The programme highlights the profound artistic connection between Beethoven's visionary Classicism—represented by both the Egmont Overture and the Piano Concerto No. 2—and Brahms's late Romanticism, embodied in the Symphony No. 4. Together, these masterpieces inaugurate both the Season's Brahms focus and the celebrations marking the bicentenary of the genius of Bonn, which form the central theme of the new Season's artistic programme.
