Description
Volodos possesses imagination, deep feeling, and a phenomenal technique that allow him to fully realize his expressive ideas at the piano.
His boundless virtuosity, unique sense of rhythm, and poetic use of tonal color make Volodos a storyteller of intense narratives, employing a limitless musical language.
Born in St. Petersburg in 1972, Arcadi Volodos began his studies in voice and orchestral conducting before dedicating himself to the piano at the St. Petersburg Conservatory starting in 1987. He furthered his training under Galina Egiazarova in Moscow, Paris, and Madrid. Since making his New York debut in 1996, he has collaborated with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the Chicago Symphony, as well as conductors like Chung and Chailly.
Recitals play a central role in his career, featuring a repertoire that ranges from Schubert to Ravel and includes works by Mompou and de Falla. He performs extensively across Europe, with upcoming concerts at the Barbican, the Philharmonie, and La Scala for the 2025–26 season, alongside recitals in Lisbon and Rome and appearances at festivals such as Salzburg.
His discography is defined by a unique artistic approach. His 1999 Carnegie Hall debut was recorded for Sony Classical.
Notable albums include *Volodos Piano Transcriptions*, *Volodos Live at Carnegie Hall*, and *Volodos in Vienna*. *Volodos Plays Liszt* (2007) and *Volodos Plays Mompou* (2013)—the latter winning both a Gramophone Award and an Echo Klassik Prize—have achieved great acclaim.
*Volodos Plays Brahms* stands as a benchmark recording, having won numerous awards, including the *Diapason d’Or* and the Edison Classical Award in 2019—an honor he also received for *Volodos Plays Schubert*.
