Description
On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Afro Basaldella, the Municipality of Magnano in Riviera and Fondazione Syncretika Arte e Cultura ETS present a major commemorative exhibition dedicated to one of the leading figures of twentieth-century Italian art.
The exhibition is centred on a double anniversary that profoundly marked the history of Friuli: 1976, the year of Afro Basaldella’s death and of the earthquake that struck the Castello di Prampero, the place the artist chose as his creative retreat from 1961 onwards. The exhibition offers a journey through the deep connection between Afro, the Castello di Prampero and the Friulian landscape, recreating the atmosphere of the summers he spent there immersed in painting, friendships, family ties and artistic research. It is a narrative that reveals the most intimate and authentic dimension of the Master’s life and work.
The Exhibition Route
The exhibition is organised into a series of thematic sections that guide visitors through the artist’s life and artistic development, featuring:historical photographs and archival materials documenting Afro’s presence at the Castle; a selection of approximately twenty works, ranging from his final Neo-Cubist experiments to the full maturity of his Informal period; multimedia installations and interpretative content dedicated to the historical and cultural context of the time; a compelling reconstruction of the artist’s studio in the Castle’s central hall.
At the heart of the exhibition is the evocative recreation of Afro’s atelier, bringing back to life the very space
