There are many important landmarks on this stage that begins in San Martino del Carso, made famous by the poet Giuseppe Ungaretti, who dedicated one of his best-known poems to this village, and ends with one of the most symbolic monuments dedicated to the remembrance of the First World War: Charnel House of Redipuglia. It is just one of the testimonies in this relatively small area but at the same time il is also the largest Italian war memorial dedicated to the fallen soldiers of the Great War. Over 100,000 soldiers have been laid to rest on its 22 steps, moved from graves and cemeteries built throughout the area during and immediately after the conflict. To this day, important ceremonies in the presence of the highest state authorities are held at this Monument on November 4, National Unity and Armed Forces Day, and June 2, Republic Day.
