The Foci dello Stella Regional Nature Reserve extends into the Marano Lagoon. It can only be reached by water via the delta of the Stella River, which can be followed up to Precenicco and Palazzolo.
Leaving your boat at a marina, you can visit the Regional Nature Reserve at the mouth of the Stella River with designated tourist boats. This allows you to enter a stunning microcosm, a true paradise for birdwatching: among the beds of reeds that line the river, you can spot marsh harriers, mute swans, and red, white, and grey herons.
As you continue, you will come across a sight of rare beauty: a village of traditional fishermen’s huts. These huts, made from reeds and wood, had a central hearth and were furnished with only the essentials needed for survival. You’ll notice that all the huts face west, the side most sheltered from the bora and tramontana winds. A wooden pier now allows for docking.
Furthermore, within the reserve, the "Bilancia di Bepi" is still in operation—a traditional fishing method. This is an essential stop to admire the authentic art of fishing and enjoy a "frittolin" made from freshly caught fish.
There are many ways to immerse yourself in this unique natural setting and experience unforgettable moments, all worth trying! One popular activity for families is a motorboat excursion, which combines the pleasure of slow-paced sailing and birdwatching in the reserve with tasting local fish either on board the boat or in the traditional fishermen’s huts, known as casoni.
