For a long time the economic activity of
Canal del Ferro has been influenced by the presence of a mine for the extraction of bituminous schist in the upper part of the valley of the Resartico stream, to which now the
Exhibition of the Mine of the Resartico Stream is dedicated.
The extraction activity has left much evidence, now collected by the Park Board: a precious source of information to tell the
story and the hard working conditions in the mines.
Several panels with photos illustrate the activities that were performed in the mine, the history of the research carried out, the natural and geological aspects of the area.
You will find a full-size reconstruction of
a tunnel (with a cart inside it). Display of rock samples, in particular bituminous schist, and of equipment used by the miners.
The Exhibition of the Mine of the Resartico Stream is completed by a
scale model of the valley showing the state of the layers and of the tunnels and by a computer presentation of the documents collected during the research.
