Hiking route along the eighth stage of the "Traversata carnica - Via della Pace," from the Fabiani refuge to the Cason di Lanza Pass
The eighth stage starts from the Fabiani refuge and with a path, at first in the woods and then along open and panoramic slopes, gains the pastures of Casera Lodin, a mountain pasture that offers a splendid view toward the Paularo valley and the peaks of the surrounding Carnic Alps.
From the Casera, CAI path 448b (Celts' path) accompanies at length through meadows below the southern slopes of Cima Val di Puartis, passing near Casera Meledis alta. Through fir forests it gains Casera Valbertad and Casera Cordin grande with the last uphill section of the trail, in the splendid acrocorus of Creta di Lanza.
In view of the northern face of Mount Zermula, the Contrabbandieri trail, at length by ups and downs among wide clearings and wetlands, with a final, steeper downhill section accompanies the Cason di Lanza pass, a stopover place of the hiking day.

At Casera Cordin it is possible to refuel with water (a fountain is present).
The route starts from the Fabiani refuge, continuing for a downhill stretch along CAI path 448. Past the bend of a stream with a small wooden bridge, just beyond, signs guide left into a meadow that precedes a very short descent near another stream. Having remounted the dense forest on the left, you exit onto the service road of the Casera Lodin, which you reach on a dirt road, keeping to the left as the trail leaves the woods. Reaching the casera and passing inside its courtyard, go straight on following the CAI trail markers until you descend a little in altitude into a grassy valley. At an isolated fountain turn sharply left, climbing at length back up the southern meadows of the Val di Puartis peak (CAI path 448b of the Celts) to a ridge where you descend to the right on a somewhat less obvious path.
The trail reaches the service road of Casera Meledis; turn left downhill and keep to the dirt road crossing a stream and ascending to Casera Valbertad where, near the building, the trail takes a right in the direction of the Polentin pass. Shortly before, on the left, a dirt road, in places cemented, climbs to the meadowy context of Cordin. To the side of the malga, to the right, CAI 451 descends through meadows and woods and, with no possibility of error, reaches the asphalt carriageway which, followed to the left, leads shortly to the Cason di Lanza pass .
Im Vordergrund ist die Kaserne und im Hintergrund der schwer umkämpfte Zuc del Guardia.
The public bus line goes all the way to the village of Paularo; access to the refuge is not served by public transportation.
The Pietro Fabiani refuge is reached via a dirt road from Casera Ramaz in about 2.15 hours of walking.
