Torrente Leale

An exciting sequence of flooded mazes, slopes and dives.
A very nice and technical gorge; the upper part of the description is not difficult, but neither is interesting on a torrential point of view. On the other hand, the lower part presents a short, narrow gorging with a slope into the flow, widened corridors and deep pools.
After a short and flat stretch, it proceeds with the seconds gorged part, closed between tall sides, where an alternation of different situation - dives, slopes and pools - will continuously accompany us to the exit.
The lower part can be linked to the journey of the Riu dal Boschet, the Leale tributary that is connected by the left bank in the stretch between the two gorging. The route is equipped according to the ProCanyon standards.

Description

Downstream access
Follow the indications from Gemona to Trasaghis. Pass over Trasaghis toward Avasinis. Drive into Avasinis and follow the indications to Alesso.
Outside the built up area, a red railing flanks the road. At the end of the railing, the road widens with a small crossroad and a large wooden panel. It is possible to park at the roadside, or make an easier choice and take the path (cul-de-sac) at the side of a house. Follow it to the ford over the creek, pass over it and proceed for about 50mt. Park in the lay-bys at the roadside, before the wood.
Avoid parking in the vicinity of the ford and in the meadow adjacent to the house right after the ford.
Doawnstream parking lot coordinates: 46.299714, 13.042013
Upstream access
Drive back for 1Km and leave Avasinis. Once you’re out of the residential area, take a road uphill to the right, with indications to Mt. Prat-Planecis. Proceed for about 3Km, until you arrive to a fork with a side road to the right (no thoroughfare sign).
From here on, proceed by foot for about 300mt more, passing by a house to the right. At a curve to the left, the trail with ProCanyon roadmark starts descending to the right and into the wood.
Upstream parking lot coordinates: 46.294236, 13.027727
After a short walk and a couple of downclimbable jumps, arrive to the first gorging, easily recognizable from the siphon to the right, where all the water is channeled. To the left, instead, there is the easier passage that runs around the siphon, crossing two potholes divided by natural rocky arch.
This is the point where it is better evaluate the flow. Should in fact the flow affect this passage as well, it means that the rate is very fast, and it could make the second gorging not feasible.

Exit
Follow the creek bed to a weir, avoidable via trail to the right bank (possible TF 8).
Over the weir, a trail on the left bank takes us back to the ford. From the ford, you can arrive to the road in 10 minutes.
How to read the data sheet
C = slope equipped point
AN = natural ancorage
MC = handrail
PI = halfway point
DEV = Deviation
DIS = downclimb
TB = toboga
TF = leap
The notation Dx (right) and Sx (left), relative to the slope points, the handrail, deviations, etc., always indicate the creek orographic bank, where they are positioned. For instance, DEV Sx indicates that the deviation lays on the left bank, and not to the left of the canyoner that will face the deviation.
