Description

Drive state road 13 toward Tarvisio. Right after the tunnel you met after passing the Resiutta built up area, turn at the fork to Roveredo and, shortly later, you’ll arrive at the bridge over Simon Brook. That is our gorge’s exit point, and here you can park a car.
Downstream parking lot coordinates: 46.23546, 13.154656
Upstream access
Drive state road 13 toward Tarvisio. Right after the tunnel you met after passing the Resiutta built up area, turn at the fork to Roveredo. After arriving at this small village, park nearby the church.
A few meters away from the church, there starts the steep CAI 424 trail with indications to Casera Cite. After a first, tiring steep stretch (mind not getting lost, follow the white-and-red pickets), the trail first turns east and then north, always flanking the Simon Brook valley, high on the orographic right. Mind the fork nearby some iron crosses (about 40 minutes), from where you must walk straight on and not take the more visible trail uphill. Shortly later, at a tributary, a less visible trail branches off and down (1 hour about away from the car). Follow it until you arrive to the bed (cairn).
From here you can easily reach the first series of slopes (4 in quick succession). The gorge then proceeds alternating dives and slopes until it arrives at a characteristic slope -which must be undertaken from the top of an enormous boulder, stuck in the middle of the gorge (anchoring for zipline provided for at the base of the jump). After passing two more jumps, you’ll arrive to a wide and sunny area that precedes ths spectacular jump into the darkness constituted by the following waterfall (33mt – itinerary’s highest vertical). From here, the gorge continues – deeply embedded – on along a stretch characterized by some lesser jumps. It suddenly ends with a spectactular inclined ramp –which, despite it looking easy, is better climed with a rope, due to its rotten and slippery rock. From here on, to reach the parking lot is but a few minutes of walk away.
