Castello di Villalta

The Castle of Villalta is the most important medieval manor of Friuli Venezia Giulia, located in a dominant position on the Friuli plain. Several times besieged, destroyed and re-built between 1200 and 1400, its monumental structure was expanded in 1500.

The double-walled enclosure, the walkways, the drawbridge, the defence towers and the picturesque and romantic interior courtyards well reflect an era of grandeur and strategic importance.

Owned by the lords of Villalta, a branch of the ancient lineage of the Caporiacco, who are among the most important ancient friulian families of the Patriarchs of Friuli. Currently, the Castle is the private residence of the Gelmi Counts of Caporiacco, who hire out some areas for special events.

The convention area of the castle has been completely restored and the accommodation facilities have been modernized.
