Backstop Mound – Stage 2

Leaving the main path near the second totem, it is possible to enter what used to be the firing range. Despite the lush vegetation that characterizes this place today, it is not difficult to imagine how this area used to be organized.

The mound (the last of 5 that made up the entire range) is clearly visible considering its dimensions (15 metres long, 11 in width and 4 in height).  The perimeter is built with dry masonry technique and filled with earth and stones, it had the function of stopping the bullets fired by the soldiers, which were meant to hit the targets placed in front of the mound. The firing was controlled and the targets replaced by two attendants who took shelter in a little hut with wide walls and whose ruins can be seen on the left, just before the mound.
