Points of interest along this itinerary:

The route "Pinzano Brige and the permanent artillery battery of Colàt Hill" is the third option under the project "The places of the Great War on the Friulian hills".
Here, you can admire and discover some Italian fortifications built before the Great War and the remains of the battle against the Austro-Germans in late October 1917.

THE VIEW OF THE TAGLIAMENTO OF THE OSSUARY OF COLLE PION
You start from the hamlet of Tabine (just like the route of the fortified compund of Mt. Ragogna) and the itinerary lies almost entirely within the Municipality of Pinzano al Tagliamento, on the opposite side of the river. Soon after the start, in fact, the cart track reaches Pinzano Bridge, where you can see a memorial stone dedicated to Captain Teodoro Moggio and the last Italian soldiers who defended this area in November 1917.

After crossing the bridge, you can immediately see the old toll booth and a metal station on a rocky outcrop, evidence of the importance of passageways over rivers. Walking along Provincial Road SP4 and crossing another bridge, a mule track on the right climbs uphill to the remains of the former German Ossuary of Pion Hill, designed in the 1930's and never terminated.

Back to the main road, head the village and turn right to Via Castello. After 200 metres, a mule track on the left heads to an opening with some reserves, a number of small buildings serving as ammo deposits.
Continuing along this military track, you will reach the last stop of this itinerary in a few minutes, the summit of Colàt Hill (Height 280). Here, you can see the remains of a permanent artillery battery, including the emplacements where the 149mm guns were placed (with their own defensive structure), an underground powder magazine, a 6.5m deep lift, some barracks and the stone entrance.

As an option, you can integrate this route with a visit to the Museum of the Great War of Ragogna, which offers an insight on what you can see around this area as well as some curios related to that period.
