Crimes on the beach of Lignano Sabbiadoro

Lignano Sabbiadoro is one of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s most famous towns; in fact, it is a renowned seaside resort, which attracts many visitors both in summer and in other periods of the year. Its charm is related to the fact of being an “invented” town, a location of the modernity of the Twentieth century rich in architectural evidence that, on its own, justifies the visit, but obviously to the natural beauties of the coast and of the immediate hinterland as well.
It is not a chance that it charmed illustrious people: like Ernest Hemingway in the Fifties, a little later another famous author visits Lignano, is ravished by its atmosphere and decides to spend there at least part of his life. Moreover, Lignano also becomes a source of inspiration for - and sometimes the setting of - his novels. Sitting at his favourite bar on the seafront, Giorgio Scerbanenco reads the morning newspapers and sets on that beach successful thrillers like Al mare con la ragazza and La sabbia non ricorda. Of Ukrainian origin (he was born in Kiev in 1911), Scerbanenco moves to Italy when he is a child. He is a journalist and writer who devotes himself to various literary genres until he finds in novels his ideal genre becoming one of the most significant crime Italian language writers.
