Resia Garlic

Val di Resia is an Alpine valley separating the Julian Alps in the north from the Western Julian Pre-Alps in the south. The valley is home to no more than 1,500 people, who act as guardians of age-old traditions and a unique biodiversity of plants, including a particular variety of garlic known locally as Strok. This reddish-pink garlic lacks the characteristic pungent smell of other varieties and has a slightly sweet taste. Today, Resia garlic is protected as a Slow Food Presidium.
