Along the coast of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Christmas takes on a different light: the festive atmosphere blends with the winter sea, between waterfront markets, illuminated corners and traditions that turn into open‑air experiences. Each destination offers its own way to discover the magic of the season, with surprises and special moments to enjoy just by the sea.
 

Lignano Natale d’A…mare

In Lignano Sabbiadoro, Christmas turns the city into a path of lights and celebration. In Piazza Fontana, the big tree and the circular ice rink shine brightly, while the Villaggio del Gusto and Santa’s Village animate the city centre with wooden stalls, rides and Santa’s house.
On the beach, at Beach Office 5, the new Winter Beach welcomes visitors with parasols, loungers and the open Beach Bar, perfect for enjoying the sea even in the colder months. The Sand Nativity, created by international artists, is a must‑see.
And in Lignano Pineta, Piazza del Sole becomes a small Christmas island with a glowing Arctic village, a tiny train and a play area for children. It will be possible to move between the Pineta and Sabbiadoro areas thanks to the free Lignano Express train service.

Nadal de l'Isola in Grado

Immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere of Nadal de l’Isola, when the fishermen’s village transforms into the Island of Christmas. The highlight is the Nativity Exhibition, with over 150 crèches displayed inside the Congress Palace, throughout the lanes and little squares of the historic centre (including guided tours accompanied by zampognari) and along the streets of Fossalon and Boscat.
On the main beach, the Winter Season creates a true “beach spa”, with a seafront village, loungers and blankets, hot tubs, a sauna, a special spolert menu and a programme of music, entertainment, and the arrival of Santa Claus. Also memorable are the tethered flights of the hot-air balloon, rising above the winter beach.
Among the most anticipated events are the Dancing Fountains, spectacular shows of water, light and music. In the Mandracchio harbour, the harbour nativity and the arrival of the Varvuole make Christmas in Grado truly unique.

Christmas in Trieste

Traditions and magical atmospheres blend in Trieste, where Christmas lights up decorated fir trees, suspended illuminations, and the large comet star over Piazza Unità d’Italia, overlooking the sea. The streets of the center host Mitteleuropean‑style markets, wooden stalls, the scent of spices and lights guiding the gaze towards the waterfront, while Christmas music fills the squares. Alongside the classics – markets, the ice rink and Santa’s sleigh in Piazza Verdi for a festive photo – a rich program of musical animations, choirs, bands and many events in the city’s museums and theatres awaits you. Don’t miss the Nativity Museum, with hundreds of nativity artworks: a fascinating journey through art, tradition and spirituality.

Il Sogno del Natale – Christmas in Monfalcone

In Monfalcone, Christmas comes to life with Il Sogno del Natale, a program that turns the city into a stage of lights, music and performances for all ages. The center is filled with the Christmas Village, the exhibition of artisanal and artistic nativity scenes in the Town Hall atrium, and a rich schedule of animations, concerts, theatre and itinerant shows. Among the most anticipated experiences are the giant hot‑air balloons of the Les Montgolfières parade, luminous shows, the spectacular Piano Sky performance with a suspended piano, Cosplayer On Ice, gospel concerts and activities for children such as Santa’s house and the “Santa’s sleigh”. Guided tours, choral music and local bands complete the festive atmosphere.
