This easy and short hike allows you to immerse yourself in beautiful larch and fir forests and reach the small and charming Sella Sompdogna pond.
The proposed route is located in a typical and picturesque alpine environment. Fir and larch forests, tinged golden in autumn, grow luxuriantly on slopes shaped by glaciers.
Traces of the latter are also found in the body of water that is the destination of the itinerary, where rainwater fills the bottom of a basin that originated during the glaciations. The fauna and flora living in the pond are very varied and of great interest: in fact, some species of amphibians such as the alpine and crested newt and numerous species of insects live here.
However, these places of peace and tranquility still show signs of the war events of the First World War. In fact, the trail allowed to visit some works such as a trench and a fortified emplacement.
The trail also reaches the "Grego brothers" refuge from which there is a splendid view of the walls of the Julian Alps.
We recommend visiting the Dogna Territory Museum to fully appreciate the naturalistic and historical context.
