The route of this walk runs mostly on dirt roads and trails, offering panoramic views of the Friulian foothills and plains, despite the modest elevation.
At less than ten kilometers in length, the route traverses a geologically diverse landscape, including the detrital cone of the Rivoli Bianchi di Venzone, the Sant'Agnese saddle, and Lake Ospedaletto, known as Lake Minisini, the largest natural reservoir in the Julian Pre-Alps. Along the way you can explore the Fort of Mount Hercules, part of the Upper Tagliamento defense system, along with the nearby forts of Osoppo and Mount Festa. Built in 1904 to control the Foredor saddle, the fort did not have the opportunity to stop the Austro-German advance after Caporetto; its guns were moved and the fort was destroyed to prevent enemy use. One can still see the guard posts, three historic buildings, and three tunnels twenty meters deep, two of which were ammunition depots, while the third housed a freight elevator connected to the machine gun bunker.

    Author’s recommendation

Present is a small water fountain near Sella Sant'Agnese in which to cool off on hot days.

    Safety information

Recommended itinerary in winter seasons due to the low elevation and high sun exposure along the route. Pay attention to the very intricate trail network and follow the trail provided scrupulously so as not to lengthen the route. There are no water sources along the loop; on particularly hot days consider having an adequate amount of water resources with you. Pay special attention if the White Rivoli military polygon is active, indicated by the presence of red flags and soldiers guarding the access roads to the area.
