Fascinating loop hike to the abandoned villages of Palcoda and Tamar, in the Tramontina Valley, amid surprising renovations and secluded settings.
From thelocality of Comesta (535 m) take trail 831a at the end of the carriage road, which soon becomes a dirt road. After crossing the Tarcenò stream, continue towards Palcoda. You pass by the "Lion in the Rock," after which the descent to the Chiarzò stream begins, beyond which there is a fork: Palcoda on the left, Pissulat Waterfall and Tamar on the right. Reaching the ruins of Palcoda di Sotto (560 m), continue (crossing a stream) to Palcoda (628 m). Not to be missed here is the church, with its two portals, and the Palcoda bivouac. Now begins the less marked and more exposed section of the hike: return to the previous fork, descend to theChiarzò and follow the river (be careful in case the river is particularly swollen). Finally, go up a grassy period, descend back to the stream and follow the signs to the Pissulat waterfall. You then return to the junction and follow the signs toward the small hamlet of Brusat, which you reach after a final climb. A few steps, and you reach the hamlet of Tamar (660 m), in a sudden, manicured clearing. The CAI-owned Varnerin bivouac is also located here. From Tamar it would be instinctive to take the wide road that descends toward Tramonti di Sotto, but this one lengthens by a great deal: looking at the hamlet, it is better to go back a few meters uphill toward the vegetable garden and take the path that runs along the back of the last houses; the first steps are not very evident, but then you find yourself on a path bordered by a dry stone wall that, in less than half an hour, takes you back to the initial fork.
