The proposed loop traverses part of theAlta Via dei Rondoi, an incredibly satisfying route that winds among the peaks of the Cavallo - Col Nudo group.

The hike first ascends by karst slopes the beautiful beech forests that precede the meadows of Val Sughet, an amphitheater enclosed between the peaks of the mountain group, with interesting and evident karst phenomena as well as alpine blooms of incredible beauty.

The small valley is climbed entirely up to the Palantina fork at 2055m to continue along steep meadows to the summit of Cimon di Palantina.

The variety of landscapes and views is remarkable and is offered aanche in the subsequent ridge traverse, reserved for experts, where the encounter with some chamois is not uncommon.

The route descends to f.lla Colombera and continues on the N-E face of Colombera with an equipped section. From the summit the mountaineering difficulties fade and the Tremol, the last summit of the route, is a riot of views reaching as far as the Adriatic Sea.

    Safety information

Hike not to be undertaken in case of uncertain weather (the upper part is exposed to lightning and the steep terrain can become very slippery with rains).

Need to have a via ferrata kit and protective helmet with you for the uphill section from the Colombera fork to Cima Colombera.

From Forcella Palantina to Cima Colombera, steady step, absence of vertigo and ability to move over terrain for experienced hikers are required.

There are no water sources along the loop; on particularly hot days consider having an adequate amount of water resources with you.

    Tips and suggestions

For hikers who are not adequately prepared, it is advisable to follow the trail in the opposite direction, thus guaranteeing the possibility of reaching, without special technical difficulties or exposure, first the summit of M. Tremol and then that of M. Colombera.
