The Mount Raut massif is the southernmost mountain range in the Park territory; the peak, at 2025 m asl, dominates the Friulian plain.
The trail starts at forcella di Pala Barzana, along the road that connects the Colvera Valley to the Andreis Valley. In the first section it climbs northward. After the first hundred meters of elevation gain, the slope decreases. We find ourselves at the Periadriatic overflow. Past this area the trail re-enters the forest. We continue northward again until we reach the ruins of the Pala Barzana cheese factory. Beyond the casera, the trail crosses the Raut pastures toward the northeast to a small streamthat is almost always without water(rio Grande). At the height of the rio, the trail bends north following a line of impluvium with gradually increasing slopes to Forcella Capra(1824m asl). From the fork follow the ridge, first westward and then northwestward; along this last stretch a rocky step a few meters high must be overcome (iron cord). To the south the plain and the sea, to the west the Mount Cavallo group, to the north the other reliefs of the Park.
