The Foran dal Mus geological trail was designed to offer visitors to the Park the chance to fully appreciate one of the most peculiar and suggestive aspects of the protected area: the extraordinary geological phenomena of the highest part of the Canin Massif. These areas, dear to climbers and speleologists, hold within them the charm of water-carved stone that shapes surfaces and descends into the deepest mountain depths, the dwellings of spirits and fantastic beings that populate the legends of these lands. Their extraordinary companions are the flowers and animals an attentive eye can spot in the vast rock garden.
The long route allows a full immersion in these breathtaking environments thanks to the descent to the upper Goriuda hut and the subsequent return to Sella Nevea along paths of great historical value.

From Goriuda hut, there are two options to return to Sella Nevea:
Given the karst nature of the territory, it is recommended to bring plenty of water as it is not available along the route.
It is recommended to carry out all waste and preserve the places visited as best as possible.

The route runs entirely on the CAI trails no. 632, 632/a, 645 and 645/a or 659.
From Gilberti refuge, take the CAI trail no. 632 towards Bila Pec saddle which is reached in about 20 minutes of uphill walking. Once at the saddle, follow the CAI variant no. 632/a which descends to the right of the Great War fort and, after a steep scree channel to be crossed carefully, leads to the heart of the karst plateau.
The trail now becomes gentler and crosses the spectacular plateau among karst and glacial formations such as furrowed fields, flutings and roche moutonnées until reaching the Boegan abyss, also called the navel of Mount Canin.
After being amazed by the beauty of the place, with the spectacular karst amphitheater behind the sinkhole, the trail gently ascends again to about 1980m above sea level where it joins the CAI trail no. 632 once more. Continue westwards to reach Grubia saddle, where the Marussich bivouac is located.
Enjoying a refreshing break at the bivouac, from the nearby saddle you can admire the panorama over the Resia Valley, retrace about 200m of the CAI trail no. 632 and then turn left onto CAI trail no. 645 which leads to the upper Goriuda hut.
The trail is never difficult or exposed, but caution is needed as the marks are not always clearly visible. The descent crosses the karst plateau of Foran dal Mus where karst phenomena abound, such as the FR155 cave and the Pluvia meander, both at about 1800m above sea level.
Leaving the spectacular rock garden behind, the trail descends more steeply into the forest until reaching the upper Goriuda hut (about 1400m above sea level), where two options for returning to Sella Nevea are presented: the Troi dai Sacs (CAI no. 659) and the Sereno Trail (CAI no. 645/a). The descent to Fontanone di Goriuda via CAI no. 645 is absolutely discouraged due to many landslides and dangerous sections.
The Troi dai Sacs is a historic trail that gains 250m of positive elevation again before descending steeply to Sella Nevea, joining the CAI trail no. 632 after about 2.5 km. It should be traveled carefully in case of rain.
The Sereno Trail is classified as EE (experienced hikers) and allows, through some ups and downs, to return to Sella Nevea with less elevation gain. However, it has some exposed sections and a few equipped passages to facilitate progress. It should be absolutely avoided in case of rain. After passing near the Nut cliff, it also joins the CAI no. 632 which leads to Sella Nevea in a few minutes.
