Hike to the symbol of the Friulian Dolomites, starting from Rifugio Pordenone. After the Campanile, we reach the Perugini Bivouac for an iconic break.
The hike begins at the Pordenone Refuge, where we take trail 353 on the right (signs).
The trail climbs the wooded slope behind the refuge, leaves the shelter of the canopies, and sets us along the Rio di Val Montanaia. The trail then runs along a track that winds among the limestone boulders of the riverbed, with considerable gradient. We thus ascend Val Montanaia, moving first to the walls on our right, then to those on the left, sometimes crossing the stream.
At one point, we have a vision: the Campanile stands out in front of us, tall. We continue along the watercourse. When we leave the stream (1820 m) the slope becomes less ruthless, the path more defined and wide. At the only fork we ignore the path on the right to the mountaineering route. A few switchbacks, and we are facing the southern face of the Campanile di Val Montanaia. Continuing on the trail, we soon reach the Perugini Bivouac (2060 m).
Tested by Light Baggage
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
The most conspicuous part of the hike-the ascent along the course of the Rio Montanaia-requires skill in moving between rocks and gravel tracks. While it does not involve exposed or technical passages, it does require some extra attention.
During the opening season of the Pordenone Shelter, and in the fall. In spring, be sure of the absence of snow.
Before embarking on the trail, it is advisable to check the period and opening hours of the facility.
