Shooting day in Trieste

One of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited is Trieste. Actually I have lived there for many years, my university years, and there are streets, squares, palaces that have remained in my heart. I wanted to share the pleasure of returning to Trieste for a trip out of town with my five-year-old son, who took his camera with him.

As always leaving the motorway at Sistiana to follow the coastal road is a thrill: the blue of the sea hits the eyes and from here high up it seems almost that you could touch it. We stopped in Miramare, for a first stop at the castle that belonged to the Habsburgs and represents a romantic preamble to the beauties of the city. Stretched out over the water, this princely residence greatly stimulates the imagination, especially that of children who expect the arrival of a dragon in the sky at any moment, ready to regain possession of the tower. The walk in the park was regenerating and Sebastiano could let off steam running up to the top of the steps. And he too was fascinated by the view, even though there was no sun.

It was fun to see these places with his eyes: the lens of his compact camera immortalised the sea in search of fish, ducks, the statue of the eagle with the snake in its beak and even a pigeon in flight.

Leaving Miramare, we reached the Rive in town by car. Finding parking was quite easy, just in front of the Maritime Station Congress Hall. We took a walk in Piazza Unità and at the end we opted to visit the Marine Aquarium. It is a small aquarium that holds mainly the common species in the Adriatic and in the Gulf of Trieste. It fully satisfied the curiosity of my son, who adores the world of the deep. Besides the sharks, it was the moray that most attracted his attention.
