Ski and snowboard at Sella Nevea: panoramic and sunny slopes between Italy and Slovenia

What a wonderful day we spent on the Monte Canin at Sella Nevea and Bovec: me on skis and my boyfriend on his snowboard!

I had not yet discovered this cross-border ski resort and I must admit that it immediately won me over: the snowy landscape is nothing short of a fairytale, the slopes are well-prepared and the lifts fast and comfortable. What more could one want? Even for the most adventurous there is plenty here: the off-piste is varied and of different difficulties; all you have to do is leave the piste to find some jump or the possibility of skiing on fresh snow, or, for more experienced skiers, you can choose long and well marked off-piste descents.

We started our skiing day on the Canin Agonistica: the beautiful red piste on the Italian side of Monte Canin that is used by international athletes as a training site for fast alpine skiing disciplines.

For ski lovers, it is a real dream: the piste is sunny along all its length, wide and perfectly prepared. The snow is excellent even at the end of March, the descent is varied and fun, and the view is breathtaking.

We also moved on to the fresh snow, along the tracks to the side of the piste, right under the stony wall of the Canin, with a series of artificial jumps and soft landings. After “warming up” on the Italian side we climbed into the Prevala cable car and reached the 2133m of Sella Golovec, on the Slovenian side.

From there, we had another 15km of beautiful slopes and off-piste descents at our disposal! I really liked the international atmosphere at this ski resort where Italian and Slovenian skiers come together with a passion for snow. We enjoyed a pleasant break in the sunny terrace of the Gilberti mountain hut where, to compensate for out athletic efforts, we ordered a substantial local dish: polenta, frico and sausage, and for dessert an amply filled apple strudel.

And then music and relaxation on the terrace, admiring the profile of the majestic snowy peaks! What can I say... Sella Nevea can count on a new fan!
